Contemporary full red morocco, covers stamped in gilt and blind to a panel design, spine gilt with five raised bands, gilt edges, gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, sik marker. Very slight wear, an initial blank leaf with small traces of a removed (?)card. Recent bookplate of Bengt Peterson.
 
Inscribed by the translator: ”A son altesse royale monseigneur le comte de Chambord, / hommage de profond respect et de dévouement sincère de son tres humble et tout obeissant serviteur / A. Gandelet” (To His Royal Highness Monseigneur the Count of Chambord, homage of deep respect and sincere devotion from his very humble and obedient servant A. Gandelet).
 
Biography of André Raess (or Andreas Räss, 1794-1887), an Alsatian Catholic Bishop of Strasbourg. French translation of ”Andreas Räss, Bischof von Strassburg” by Guerber (Würzburg 1873) in the series Deutschlands Episcopat in Lebensbildern.
