(Tinguely, Jean) (1925-1991) - K.G. Pontus Hultén: Jean Tinguely. ”Méta”.

Stockholm (pr. Malmö), 1972. 30,5 x 21,5 cms. 1-38, 43-364 pp. + plate (with perforated gutter edge) made with Tinguely's Méta-matique in Stockholm in 1972, and signed in pencil by the artist + 33 rpm gramophone record inside rear cover.

Richly illustrated with photos and reproductions, many full- or double-page. (Pages 39-42, containing a translation of a text by Hultén on kinetic art in the non-Swedish editions, were omitted in this original Swedish edition.)

Original pictorial binding in colour, designed as a briefcase with handle and a keyless lock, red silk marker. Very fine.

Provenance: Jeanette Bonnier (1934-2016).

Hultén had followed Tinguely’s career since their first meeting in 1954 and was the first director of Museum Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland, which opened in 1996. On the copyright page of this book Hultén states it is published in lieu of his great monograph on the artist, which, however, he still hopes to complete.
