Med dedikation av M. Goppers på lettiska till disponenten L. G. Brolin, Stockholm 1954. Denne tackas särskilt i förordet: ”We also wish to express our heart-felt thanks to Mr. L. G. Brolin, Managing Director of Alb. Bonnier Ltd., who by his obligingness and interest made it possible for this book to be published wihin a short time”.

 

Gåvoexemplar i gulbrunt helmarokängband, ryggen med två upphöjda bind och titeltryck i guld, pärmarna med fyra smala ramlinjer i guld, speglarna med skinndoublure i avvikande färg och dekor i guld- och blindtryck, övre guldsnitt, omslagen medbundna (det främre med originalträsnitt av Vilis Ciesnieks). Bandet stämpelsignerat ”Bonniers bokbinderi 1954” i guldtryck på bakre spegeln och ”WB” i blindtryck på bakärmen. Frampärmen aningen flammig, ett ryggbind med liten nötning. Fint skick. I nött kassett.

 

Inledning av Arnolds Spekke om inflytandet från övrig europiesk kultur och historia på lettisk litteratur.

With inscription by the publisher M. Goppers in Latvian to L. G. Brolin, Stockholm 1954. Brolin is also thanked in the foreword: ”We also wish to express our heart-felt thanks to Mr. L. G. Brolin, Managing Director of Alb. Bonnier Ltd., who by his obligingness and interest made it possible for this book to be published wihin a short time”.

 

Presentation copy bound in full morocco, two raised bands to spine (one lightly rubbed), gilt title on spine and fillets on covers, brown morocco doublures tooled in gilt and blind, top edge gilt, wrappers bound in (front wrapper with original woodcut by Vilis Ciesnieks). Bindning signed ”Bonniers bokbinderi 1954” in gilt and additonally signed with gilt monogram of William Barkell (”WB”). The slightest colour variation on front cover. In a worn slipcase.

 

In his introduction, Arnolds Spekke discusses the influence of European thought and historical events upon Latvian literature. The introduction is followed by Janis Andrup's essay on Latvian folk poetry and early writings.
